Types of Biofertilizers

Biofertilizer is the natural plant nutrient which contain microorganisms, which is used to apply in soil, plant, seed, to increase primary nutrient which helps the growth of plant. It increases the nitrogen content of soil. And there are four main types of biofertilizers  which is available to the farmers in India.

Different microorganism and their association with crops are being act in the production of biofertilizers in the microbial nature.

Types of Biofertilizers

Those fertilizers which is made up by biological organism like bacteria, blue green algae.

The main source of bioferlizers are fungi, bacteria, and cynobacteria ie: BGA (blue-green algae).

These have the symbiosis relationship with plant and help the plant to grow better.

Some biofertilizer like rhizobium, cyanophyceae, mycorrhiza are known to deliver plant nutrition.

Types of biofertilizers

There are mainly four types of biofertilizers.

1. Nitrogen Biofertilizer

2. Phosphate Biofertilizer

3. Cellulolytic Biofertilizer (Compost Biofertilizer)

4. Liquid Biofertilizer

1. Nitrogen Biofertilizer

It helps to balance the nitrogen level of the soil. Nitrogen is the primary nutrition for the plant growth. Nitrogen biofertilizer is important as it provides nitrogen to the soil.

There are some bacteria algae fungi that fix atmospheric nitrogen. There are different types of nitrogen biofertilizer which improve the nitrogen in different different crops like, rhizobium for legume crops azotobacter for none legume crops blue green algae and azolla for low land paddy crops.

2. Phosphate Biofertilizer

It helps to balance the Phosphorus level of the soil. Phosphorus biofertilizers are in the soluble form. Phosphorus biofertilizer forms symbiotic association with roots of the plant and provide phosphate to the plant for the proper growth.

Fungi like gigaspora, glamus, endogone etc associate with roots of the plant to provide Phosphorus are known as mycorrhizal association, there are certain living bacteria like psedudomas fluoroscens, bacillus, subtilis, psedomonas putide that solubilize phosphate in the soil and it help in the plant growth.

3. Cellulolytic Biofertilizer

The biofertilizer which increase the rate of decomposition process of organic matter. Suitable biofertilizer for compost use are cellulolytic fungal culture. Cellulolytic biofertilizer is also called compost fertilizer.

Vermi compost and other organic fertilizer which is prepared from waste material of sugar industries are decomposed with various plant and bacteria fungi, this types of biofertilizers or biocompost rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulphur, enzymes and antibiotics which help to improve the plant growth and yield.

4. Liquid Biofertilizer 

It is one of the cheapest and famous “types of biofertilizers” for farmers. It can use made up by cow dung with the solution of water. Normally farmers use it as a basic component for the growth of plant or crops.

Advantages of Biofertilizer

There are many advantages to use biofertilizer in our ecological environment. It promote the plant growth and make healthy crop plants.

1. First of all, it is an environmental friendly components and help to decrease chemical fertilizer consuming.

2. It can prepare easily at home or own field with low production cost. As well as it is obtained very easily.

3. They control diseases and improve the soil properties and fertility. Because it provides plant nutrient at cheapest way.

4. They can increase crop productivity up to 25-30 % due to present of NPK.
